Technical

My setup consists of an high end desktop computer. I can provide a single projector with a maximum projection size of 7.62 m. The setup is controlled with a game controller! (Forget the laptops/keyboards geeks, I control the crowd!)

For the best experience, I recommend using 3 projectors in landscape mode each at 600x800 resolution. My PC has 1  display port and 2 DVI-ports.

Technical

DJ Support mode

This will probably be the most used mode. The DJ will play the music and I get a line-in signal from his music. I will give my real-time visual interpretation of the music. The technical set-up for this is shown below:

Independent VJ mode

I will provide the music and the visuals. My VJ Software can play any audio file from my computer. However, I cannot mix music so every song is just played from the start. Playback is from a collection of music files in a folder. The playback can be sequential or shuffled. I provide sound output from my computer's line-out. The technical set-up for this is shown below:

What I provide

I will bring my own high-end computer, with wireless controller and an 10 m VGA cable. I have a 2 m audio tulip cable with adapter to 3.5 mm line-in/out to my computer. If other types of cables are required I will charge for them. If possible I can provide a beamer with ceiling mount for some additional cost. I can install the beamer to the ceiling, either with bolts to an existing steel support framework, or with drilling and or tie-wraps.

Requirements

The room should be suitable for projection. This means:

  • Ideally a pre-installed (multi) beamer set-up and accompanying cables (I can use VGA, DVI, display port)

  • Reasonable unobstructed area for projection:

  • Either a white wall, white curtain or projector screen in a central area of the room.

  • Power-socket within 2 meter of the projector.

  • Location for PC within 10 m VGA cable reach of beamer. Power available for PC.

  • Line in/output available in amplifier (depending on chosen VJ-mode)

If these requirements are not met, we can find alternative solutions together. This might mean that additional testing and preparation is required.

Future developments / Special requests

I would be very interested in doing special projects. One of the first things I would want to develop is a MIDI controller. I have been a programmer since the age of 14 and have been in industrial automation for 6 years, so connecting hardware to software is kind of my thing ;-). If you now have (Disco) lights that are controlled manually, chances are that they can be controlled automatically by using a MIDI-controller. My software internally stores an overall scene color, so this can be used to create a full room ambiance color in the room. Also with beat detection lights could flash on the music. This requires some software development and hardware testing, but if you have budget to make such an investment it would definitely be worth it!
